This is a 16 weeks clinical course combining clinical medical and surgical nursing and communicable and negelected diseses. The course runs in the third semister and students are allocated to various departments which include :
- Theatre for 4 weeks
- Intesive Care Unit (ICU) and/or High Dependence unit (HDU) for 2 weeks
- Anteretroviral Therapy (ART) clinic for 2 weeks
- Medical wards for 2 weeks
- Surgical wards for 2 weeks
- Gynecological wards for 2 weeks
- Palliative care clinic for 1 week
- Sexually Transmitted infections (STI) clinic for 1 week

The course introduces learners to the basics of effective communication. Emphasis is placed on therapeutic, interpersonal, and professional communication skills; and the use of information and communication technology in order to provide the highest quality nursing and midwifery care.

The course covers basic nursing care and fundamentals of behavioural sciences. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of knowledge, skills and appropriate attitudes necessary for the practice of nursing and midwifery utilising the nursing process and primary health care (PHC) concept.
